When we initially opened in 2002, some of our major philanthropic funders included The Duke Endowment, Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, and the Iredell County Community Foundation. Other foundations have blessed us with support, including The Cannon Foundation, Lowes Community Foundation, and the Wachovia Foundation. We have also received significant Victim of Crime Act (VOCA) funding since 2004 through the North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission.
In 2007, accredited Children's Advocacy Centers in North Carolina (of which we are one) began receiving a modest amount of state funding by becoming a line item on the state budget. Many other local corporate, civic and religious organizations faithfully support Dove House through cash and/or material and labor donations.
Our two primary sources of funding today are cash donations from private citizens, and the fundraising efforts of our Board of Directors and a faithful army of volunteers. It is critical that we continue to reduce our dependence on philanthropic and foundation funding, and increase our reliance on local support from the communities that we serve. We have been humbled by the awesome support of private citizens, churches, corporations and local civic organizations, and are confident that this community is committed to the success of Dove House and the services we provide to children who are suffering because of child sexual abuse.
A great way to support Dove House is to become involved with one of our annual fundraisers, -- "An Evening for Dove House" -- and "Children's Voice Luncheon" - either by attending, or donating something, or both!
“An Evening for Dove House”
The Dove House Board of Directors, with the assistance of an army of volunteers, have held a signature fundraiser every spring since 2002. “An Evening for Dove House” has become one of the most coveted fundraisers in our area, selling out quickly each year, often with a waiting list of supporters desiring tickets! Each year this Event delivers a first-class evening of culinary delights, silent and live auctions, live entertainment and dancing! Larry Sprinkle from NBC6 thrills our guests with his auctioneering talent as he hosts our Live Auction! Tickets are $100 per person, or you can purchase a Corporate sponsorship for $1,000 and receive a private table for 8, along with other benefits. Once you attend, you will make it a point NOT to miss this awesome event in future years! CLICK HERE for information on this year's event.
"Children's Voice Luncheon"
This annual Dove House event premiered in 2011 and brings our neighbors and colleagues together over lunch to learn about the vital role that Dove House plays in keeping the children in our community safe. A complimentary lunch is served to attendees who enjoy an inspriational program. Our inaugural theme was "A Better Tomorrow" and featured a moving testimonial from a survivor of child sexual abuse followed by a song written and sung by Dove House's own very talented Teresa Naylor. We return attendees back to their daily activities promptly at 1 p.m. Because Dove House depends on financial donations from the community for the majority of funding needs, an opportunity to make a financial contribution will be extended at the conclusion of the program.
There is no cost to attend this event though advance reservations are required! We are always looking for Table Captains who can fill a table of 8 for this event. If you would like to be a Table Captain or attend the event, call us at 704-883-9814 or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The information below has been graciously provided by Cynthia Peabody & Associates. Dove House recommends that you consult your tax advisor for more information.
Cash Contributions
Cash contributions are always welcome and can be made via cash, check, or certified funds. Online donations are welcome! Your donation is tax deductible for the amount of the contribution for the year in which it is actually paid. Although this is usually the easiest way to donate, it may not be the most tax efficient way for you to provide for Dove House needs. Below are additional donation suggestions. Please be aware that you will need to keep certain records to substantiate your contributions for IRS purposes. Click here to donate online.
Appreciated Financial Assets
Because Dove House is a charitable 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, it can liquidate any donated appreciated assets and not recognize capital gains. In addition, the donor may be allowed to take a tax deduction for the full value of the donated items.
Appreciated Stock Contributions
Substantial contributions can be made with very favorable tax benefits by donating appreciated stock or mutual funds from your investment portfolio instead of cash. The allowable deduction is equal to the fair market value of the investment on the date of the transfer. When there is a gain, you do not have to recognize it and therefore you avoid paying taxes on the appreciation, but the appreciation is included in your deduction. Please be aware that these investments should have been held for at least 12 months.
Appreciated Real Estate
Many real estate holdings have appreciated substantially in recent years and are subject to capital gains taxes if sold. By using a charitable remainder trust, these assets and others can be transferred directly to Dove House and you can defer and minimize taxes on the appreciation while still receiving an income tax deduction.
Other Asset Gifts
Other assets such as personal property and collectibles are accepted on a case-by-case basis. The deductibility of these gifts is limited to the charitable purposes of Dove House.
Additional Contribution Opportunities
There are numerous other ways to help Dove House while establishing a beneficial tax plan for your future.
- A charitable lead trust is a tax planning tool that allows you to make specified donations as well as transfer assets to your family members.
- Retirement assets can be willed to Dove House to avoid both income and estate taxes.
Please consult your tax advisor regarding these mutually beneficial estate and tax planning opportunities.
